Summit House Transitions is an intermediate level of care that helps our clients transition from the primary treatment level of care at Legacy Treatment Center to their aftercare placement.  We have designed a multiple-week program where clients focus on taking ownership and responsibility for their own recovery and putting it into action. The curriculum centers around them creating a well-planned and practical daily routine and weekly schedule for their recovery and a detailed relapse prevention plan. They become aware of their warning signs of relapse, participate in mapping out high risk situations and learn strategies to navigate those situations. They take ownership for their aftercare plan, including researching and contacting extended care or sober living programs, and finalize their personal Life Success Plan.

The daily schedule of Summit House engages clients in developing their vision for what life looks like in recovery, how to accomplish goals and take care of responsibilities each day, and living each day with a sense of purpose. In an apartment-style living situation with 24-hour professional staffing clients learn and practice life skills, develop a workout routine at a local gym, attend daily relapse prevention groups, meet with a licensed therapist weekly, attend daily Intensive Out Patient (IOP) programming, attend community 12 step meetings, participate in community service activities, and develop their own recovery and relapse prevention plans.

Weekend adventures are the highlight of the week at Summit House. Clients plan and execute weekend adventure trips that emphasize having fun in recovery and developing and utilizing a support community.

The trips include:

  • rock climbing

  • mountain biking,

  • canyoneering

  • skiing

  • kayaking

  • white water rafting

  • social events for young people in recovery

Weekend trips also include more urban adventures where clients attend Utah Jazz games,  Real Salt Lake soccer games, movies, lectures and speaker events, and other meaningful things that engage clients and show them how to have a fun meaningful time without using drugs and alcohol. When traveling on these adventures clients learn how to find and utilize local recovery communities. The Summit House experience demonstrates that one can have a fulfilling and rewarding life fun in recovery and live as an honorable man.

Life Success Plan

True success doesn’t happen by accident; it is the culmination of a well developed and executed plan.  While at Legacy Treatment Center, each client creates a thorough and comprehensive Life Success Plan (LSP). With the support of the treatment team and family, each young man creates a written plan to be used as a roadmap for his personal journey to responsible manhood. Each young man’s LSP starts with the creation of a vision statement for the man he wants to be. Throughout the program he continues to add to the LSP as he learns new skills and gains new insights.  By the completion of the program, each young man has created a plan for success for his future and gained ownership and confidence in it by living it daily throughout his stay. Upon graduation, the LSP serves as a guide for the next step in life and a positive course for the future.

Power of Mentoring

Research shows that relationships are one of the most powerful agents of change.  We believe in the power of mentoring and assign mentors from our guide team to every client.  For young men to gain a desire to make the transition to adulthood they must see the benefits of that decision.  Each client works closely with competent, caring mentors who have made the successful transition to honorable manhood and have the training and experience to help mentor others through their transitions.
