Veronica Malencia, ACMHC

Veronica has been working with adolescents and young adults in the outdoors for nearly 10 years. She entered the field of wilderness therapy in 2013 and quickly found her community. Over and over again, she has witnessed the power of wilderness to humble, inspire, and help people discover their most authentic selves.

After years as a field guide, Veronica continued her career in the mental health field working in various settings, from outpatient college counseling to substance abuse treatment and young adult transitional living. Veronica completed her Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, and then followed the call back to wilderness. She loves being a part of Juniper Canyon, helping to build a rich, female community centered around growth and recovery.

Veronica is trained in EMDR and utilizes a trauma-informed, strength-based approach with her clients.  In her free time, Veronica can often be found playing in the Utah desert – running, biking, or climbing with friends.

The Legacy Team

The founders and leadership team of Legacy Outdoor Adventures bring together accomplishments and experience across the full spectrum of wilderness therapy.  Members of the team, led by Gil Hallows, Executive Director, and including Troy Faddis, Clinical Director, Ray Barlow, Admissions Director, and Derek Daley, marketing/admissions, have had a profound impact in defining the field of wilderness therapy.  Team members have played major roles developing effective wilderness programming, establishing risk management and clinical best practices, refining substance abuse treatment in the wilderness, and setting the standard for training professional field instructors and wilderness therapists.
