Susan Kern, CSW
Treatment Center Director
Susan joined the Legacy team in 2016. She holds a Master of Social Work with an emphasis on healthcare, and a Bachelor of Business Management. Prior to joining Legacy, Susan was the Director of Insurance Operations for one of the most respected insurance agencies in the state of Kansas. As the director, she facilitated strategic planning and implemented systems that improved organizational efficiency and processes. In 2006, Susan moved to Utah and made a career change. Stepping out of her comfort zone, she started her career in the helping profession at a residential treatment program for adolescents. She was the co-developer of a wilderness component within the residential program, and served as the field guide for that component. To better serve others, Susan earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Utah. She has worked as an individual therapist for adults in community-based and skilled nursing organizations, and for children and adolescents in residential care. Beyond helping individuals in various settings, Susan has directed program evaluations within school systems and other organizations, and coordinated the technical writing and submission of grant applications and bids for government and foundation funded programs. Susan is proficient in managing information and currently oversees the health information obtained, used, recorded, and held by Legacy and Juniper Canyon. She is also responsible for the technological functions of Legacy and Juniper Canyon, and manages compliance with licensing regulations, accreditation standards, and HIPAA requirements. She also provides organizational support for the clinical team. Susan appreciates the beauty and unique landscape of Utah and is happy to work and live in a place that offers so many ways to explore and enjoy outdoor adventures. She looks forward to the times she benefits from the inherent opportunities available in the area.
